The NWCGA Seniors kicked off the season with a narrow defeat against Fylde GA at Fleetwood GC in April by 3½ – 2½. This fixture was the first of 6 and the team performed exceptionally well.
3 days later we welcomed Cheshire Seniors to North Wales GC were took a 1 point deficit into the afternoon fourballs where we only secured a half point to lose convincingly by 3½ – 14½. This result was disappointing compared to the performance of the previous fixture.
Up next we hosted Lancashire Seniors at Conwy GC and we took 3½ – 2½ lead after the morning Greensomes and in the afternoon Fourballs we secured 7 points to 5 to give us a handsome victory by 10½ – 7½.
This result was by far our best performance in my tenure as Team Captain and it was a great team performance, 8 matches out of the 12 went down the 18th hole.
We then reverted to our league fixture at Northop GC where Southport GA were the visitors and we won by 4 points to 2. A good win against a very strong team. In June we visited Penworthham GC to play our return fixture against Southport GA and came away with a 4 – 2 win, another good performance on a very tricky course.
We then hosted East Lancs at Wrexham GC and unfortunately we weren’t able to keep the momentum going and lost by 3½ – 2½.
The standings in the league show NWCGA lying 2nd to Fylde GA and we play them on August 10th at Rhuddlan GC, which could be a title decider.
Our final 2 fixtures of the season are at Condover GC on Friday 31st July against Hereford and Shropshire, and we finish our league fixture at Clitheroe GC on Monday 7th September (there is a clash with this fixture but we are hoping we have enough players to play in both).
The end of season get together is at Clitheroe GC Monday 21st September where the 4 teams will play for prizes and the winning team will be presented with a trophy.
